There you are!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sam burst through a screen of hanging vines. He looked exhausted and disoriented. To Elara\u2019s eyes, he was covered in cobwebs and leaf litter, but he was frantically brushing at his sleeves as if trying to get rid of invisible dust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I\u2019ve been looking everywhere,&#8221; Sam panted. &#8220;The power went out in the Math wing, and everyone just&#8230; disappeared. His grip was a shock\u2014it felt cold, artificial, and strangely thin, like a hand made of paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Sam, look at the hall,&#8221; Elara pleaded, pointing to the strangler fig pillars. &#8220;Look at Mr. Henderson. The emerald moss shriveled into dry linoleum; the glowing fungi dimmed into dusty, empty bookshelves. The &#8220;predictable&#8221; world was reasserting itself, fueled by Sam\u2019s absolute refusal to see anything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Wait!&#8221; Elara cried, digging her heels into the floor.
